By Iris Wen, 435 Digital SEO Intern
An internship should be full of learning experiences, you should meet new people, and it should challenge your skills. This is exactly what I got coming on board with the SEO team at 435 Digital.
If you asked me what a robot.txt file was, where to find a sitemap or what backlinks were during my first week, I wouldn’t have known the answers. But just a month later, I know so much more about Search Engine Optimization.
So what was the learning curve? Luckily, the online resources are endless. Once you know what to look for, you can likely find it somewhere online, broken down in simple terms. I found a lot of answers on Moz.com and was able to keep up with all things new on Twitter.
The SEO team was obviously a great resource as well. They were extremely well-informed and always had multiple ways to approach each step of website optimization.
Like any internship, making the most of this experience has meant taking initiative and being responsible. While my previous experience has been in sales and marketing research, I read up on SEO trends and came prepared to put my best foot forward. I’ve realized that the learning involved with digital marketing will never end.
This internship was also my first experience working in an office setting, and I love the dynamic personalities that I get to interact with each day. Flexibility and communication are key in being able to work in a team. I’m constantly thinking of ways I can help out and improve the organization.
Taking on this experience meant jumping in with both feet, and so far it has been an amazing experience for my professional development. I love that the work culture is welcoming and there is always room for discussion. In a short amount of time, I’ve gained insight into all forms of SEO, and I know there’s so much more to learn.
The best part is that everything I’ve learned is highly applicable to my interest in marketing, and the ever-changing work keeps me excited each day.
